NBA 2K24 introduces Crossplay but is it enough?

By Yonugggaming

The award-winning Sports game will have cross-play functionality, allowing Xbox and PlayStation players to game together for the first time in franchise history! This is long overdue as fans have requested this for years and cross-play is becoming more of an industry standard within the gaming community.

In the last 2 years, we’ve seen several other sports games to do cross-play such as EA Sports FIFA, NHL, San Diego Studios MLB The Show, 2K sports PGA Tour, and most recently EA Sports upcoming title Madden 24 so it seemed the last piece of the puzzle would be for a basketball game to be cross-play. This news first came from Greg Thomas, president at Visual Concepts, in an interview with ESPN discussing news on the upcoming game. He revealed that the game cover athlete would be none other than NBA Icon and Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant. This is so fitting considering the game's title includes 24, which is one of Bryant’s numbers. 2K Studios released an announcement video via their Instagram informing players that cross-play is here for all modes with no restrictions. At this time we are still unsure how in-game voice will work for players but no worries as far as communication goes Discord has us covered. The app is available on both Xbox and PlayStation and integrates like a normal party chat.

Between the horrible microtransactions, repetitive season pass system, and lack of real updates to any modes outside of my career and MyTeam the 2K community has been disgruntled, to say the least with the game. Adding this feature is a win for 2K sports and it’s nice to see them listening to their community. Only time will tell if this will be enough to get players to overlook the franchise's other issues.
