Walkabout Mini Golf is an absolute joy and must-play experience in VR!

It has been quite a while since I’ve told myself “Just one more game” and continued to play several more before losing track of time. That is the exact feeling I get with Walkabout Mini Golf! Walkabout Mini Golf is not your typical golfing experience. Whether you are playing solo, meeting someone new, or challenging your friends to private matches, this VR experience does not disappoint.

The game is fairly simple. There are multiple unique courses, each course is 18 holes with both a Regular and Hard variation. The hard version of each course is at night time and must be unlocked by finishing the regular course at least par, or by finding 10 of the 18 “lost balls”. The Lost Ball Hunt is a game within a game and honestly far more satisfying than it sounds! I usually take 2-3 minutes per hole to try and find the lost ball which both helps my progress to unlocking the Dark version of the course but also allows me to have some colorful new balls to show off when playing against friends. Now on Hard mode instead of looking for the lost ball, you complete a unique scavenger hunt to unlock a new putter unique to each course. So there’s plenty to do besides just play the courses which increase the replay value From a visual standpoint Perhaps the most calming game in VR. I found myself in awe of the map designs, attention to detail, light-hearted atmosphere, and most importantly minimalist design. This allowed for hours of playing without ever feeling motion sickness. With the PSVR2 being my first experience in VR I find that there is an adjustment for me that comes with many games but with Walkabout I was able to play without issue and for longer than I have with any other title. The selling point of Walkabout for me is the social aspect. It is fully crossplay with voice support between Quest and PSVR2 which is a huge deal as this is one of the First titles to do so. VR headsets are not cheap so being able to play matches with my friends on quest is a leap in the right direction that I hope more games take. As for setup, it is a seamless process as you and your friends simply load up a private game and you’re good to go. As far as cons my only complaint is that the game is one-armed use. You put it with either your right hand or your left, which is awkward at first and takes some getting used to. This also leaves the other controller just in your hand uselessly. It’s a minor issue but I wish they had the option to play two-handedly, just seems like it would be smoother and give more control. Overall walkabout Mini Golf is a must-play experience best played with friends that will give you endless hours of fun. Between the smooth graphics, no motion sickness, and social interactions between friends this has become my new favorite title on PSVR2.
